following set of instructions is merely included as a guide to navigating
each of the 'drop down' menu tabs.

Introduction |
|
|
All walks detailed on this site were undertaken from 2001 and provide
information relevant to that period. The Foot & Mouth outbreak during the
first half of 2001 prevented access to many paths; that information is no longer
relevant but access should always be checked before setting out.
Presentation has gradually evolved over the last two years to it's current
format and all walks from, & including 2002, follow the same format by providing
a thumbnail image preview leading to a full description of the walk; earlier
walks may be less detailed but are included to provide photographic detail over
that period.

All pictures taken using
Pentax *istDS (3008 x 2000), Fuji FinePix 4700 (1280 x 960) or Fuji S602 (2048 x 1536) and
resized to 600 x 400 with JPEG compression, to
reduce the size of the images suitable for web browsing.
Panoramic
images created using Panorama Factory software then resized to a consistent
width of 1280 and post processed using Adobe Photoshop.
All
internet images are re-sized and

to batch reduce image size to 600 x 400 with a final file size of nominally
75k.
Two different
pages are provided for each walk and are details as follows:

This page provides the fastest way to get access to each of the walks;
clicking on the thumbnail image brings up a 'pop up'

Walking |
|
|
|
|
|
Walking on the island is not
particularly arduous and, with the possible exception of the Shepherd's
Trail & Stenbury Trail linked by the Coastal Path, the walks detailed on
this site should be well within the reach of most walkers. Good
quality 'trainers' or walking boots, either leather or fabric, will assist
as will the correct choice of clothing but are not essential, particularly
for the shorter walks.
Please
respect the countryside and keep to footpaths leaving all gates as found.
Always take care when
using paths that follow the cliff edge, especially if accompanied with
children.
A compass, or indeed GPS, is
not really essential but can provide additional information to the benefit
of the walker.
A
walking speed of 2½ mph will provide a reasonable indication of the duration
of each walk
i.e. a 10 mile walk will take nominally 4 hours, allowing plenty of time to
take photographs etc.

Disclaimer |
|
|
|
|
|
ALL walks detailed on this site were
available at the time of walking and with minor exceptions ALL walks are
across public rights of way, on public footpaths & permissive paths or
across designated Access Land; information provided by WightCAM is done with
best intentions and any deviation from the aforementioned is the
responsibility of the walker.
Footpath closures & detours are
inevitable particularly near exposed coastal regions; WightCAM accepts no
responsibility for the continued authenticity of walks published on this
site.
The description, with or without a map,
of a route on this website is not meant to signify a right of way. We are
lucky on the Isle of Wight to have a network of approximately 500 miles of
paths, BUT all land is owned by someone and if in doubt, permission should
be obtained from the landowner first.
WightCAM has taken
great care to ensure that the information on this website is accurate. No
liability is accepted for any misinformation or injury, loss or damages incurred by
use of
said information.
The time taken was how long it took me
on that day given my mood, who I was with and the weather conditions. If you
choose to follow one of my routes it may take you more or less time than it
took me!
Car parking is the
responsibility of the
owner & must always be done in strict accordance with local bylaws. |
