Cut by
some beautiful chines, its coastline is full of tiny streams but it renowned as
being a danger to shipping and many times the brave men of Brook have risked
their lives setting out in their lifeboat to rescue imperilled seamen. At low
tide there is what is first thought to be large lumps of rock covered in seaweed
but in fact they are pine trees that grew here in a forest long before history
and are known as the Pine Raft.
There is
a green mound on Brook Down, 500 ft up that does not seem very old but the
battle 13th century archway of the tower to the tiny church seems like it also
came from before history, though it was rebuilt in the 19th century. The only
old treasures of the church are the blocked in tower arch and a stone carving of
a lion.
