There are only about twelve houses in Hulverstone  which is a hamlet that stands between Brook and Mottistone. But in past years it was just a small collection of cottages that were tied to Hulverstone Farm and were used by the workers here.

There may be no Church here. as such as it is only a quarter of a mile from Brook Church and half a mile from Mottistone Church, but there is the Sun Inn which is about four hundred years old, a school and a village post office. The old tied cottages have now become highly desirable and have been enlarged and made into private homes. The school originally a barn was changed by Charles Seely in the middle of the 19th century and has now also been made into a private house. The post office is also a private house.

The Sun Inn, which had served not only the people of Hulverstone, Brook and Mottistone for well over 200 years, but a much wider community and was very popular with those who walked this beautiful area, was bought in 1998 by a man from the mainland who without any warning, consultation or permission attempted to change this Grade II building into a private house.  Feelings ran so high in the community that as a result of a public meeting he was ordered to restore it to being a pub. It has now been re-sold and restored to its former use as a lovely old village pub.

New houses have sprung up over the years and Hulverstone Farm no longer exists but the farmhouse itself has been converted to a private house called Hulverstone Manor Farmhouse, and one of the barns here has been made into Brookhill Farm another modern home. The surrounding farmland has along with the farmland of Brook Farm become Chapel Furlong Farm.
